New issue of Social Security Rights Review (Vol 4 No 1, January 2018)

adminNews & media, Social security rights review

Our new issue of Social Security Rights Review features articles on Commonwealth prosecutions of social security fraud, and the right to social security within international human rights frameworks. These topics will be the focus of two free webinars we will be hosting in the first half of 2018 in partnership with Community Legal Centres QLD. Details will be posted on our website soon.

Tomlin’s case provides much needed clarity about debts raised when people do not separately report their income for both social security and family tax benefit payments. This successful debt appeal case, run by our member Welfare Rights Centre Sydney, will have a positive impact on others in similar debt circumstances, many of whom seek assistance from our member centres.

Our overview of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) explains the NDIS eligibility criteria, the process for reviewing and appealing decisions, and the intersection of the NDIS with social security law.

Also in this issue, you will find summaries of three recent decisions in the area of social security law.

We welcome any feedback and suggestions on our Social Security Rights Review newsletter.
